Description: This will be a fundamentals of playwriting course taught through the lens of magical object plays. Magical Object plays are plays that feature an object as a central element. That object must hold meaning to the characters or the setting. Students will read plays that feature the magical object structure and use thosE tools to write plays of their own. Each week, one student will get a scene of their writing assignment read out loud in class and workshopped. Students will be assigned weekly reading and writing assignments and the class will culminate in each student having written a one-act magical object play! This class will serve to implement an understanding of the medium of playwriting! No previous playwriting experience necessary!

Prerequisite: Must be a confident reader and writer. Students must be able to handle reading material with mature content.

Tuition: $320, with $15 registration fee

LIZ FASSANELLA

Liv Fassanella is a playwright and dramaturg based in Connecticut. Her plays explore diverse experiences of womanhood through horror, comedy, and drama. Her dramaturgy credits include: Playhouse on Park; THE AGITATORS, FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE, MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY. Foul Contending Rebels; EURYDICE. Her passions center around the development of new plays and how to incorporate philanthropy, inclusivity and accessibility into theatre. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Bennington College in 2021.
